Ever have one of those times where your heart is breaking and nobody understands but God?
You want to tell the people around you and they might want to help but it doesn’t really help.
I recently had “one of those times.”
We are taught to always take things to God in prayer and yet it seems that becomes a last resort for most of us. Or for me anyway. We’d rather meet a friend for coffee, tell our spouse or comment on social media to someone who can give us immediate feedback instead of waiting on God.
Well, the other night, I did just that. I took it to God first.
I literally got down on my hands and knees and knelt in prayer, (God knows I’m very serious when I do that!) tears welled up in my eyes over this hurt in my life.
I honestly told God how I felt and that I didn’t want to feel that way. Since He made me and understands all about me, I asked him to help me understand. I cried out for Him to help me with my feelings, help me with my response, help me get out of my “funk.”
Can anyone else relate?
The prayer time did help. The issue was now in God’s hands and true to my “word of the year” I surrendered it to him knowing God is quite capable to handle anything I give him. I went on with my evening.
The very next morning I was again praying and seeking God in my quiet Bible time and it was his gentle voice, it’s always his gentle voice with me, that spoke truth into my life.
It was also something I read here from one of you on Substack (and you know who you are!) that God used to speak truth in my life again on the very thing I had brought to him the night before!
Hearing from God in these ways and His perspective changed everything in the situation. I had a fresh perspective on things, a new outlook and some hope again!
I truly believe God hears our prayers and cares about what we care about, dear friends.
“I love the Lord, for he heard my voice: he heard my cry for mercy.” Psalms 116:1
“In my distress I called to the Lord; I cried to my God for help.” Psalms 18:6
Like any good parent, He wants to give good gifts to his children!
He lovingly listens to us, He takes away our burdens, He makes us feel better, if we share our hurts with him.
And that’s what prayer is, sharing our hearts and thoughts with a loving, listening Lord.
“Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.” Mark 11:24
You might say, why do I need to pray if God knows it all already? Well, that’s true He does, but you see, prayer is for us.
Prayer is an act of worship that helps align our hearts with God and his will.
And the older I get I pray my prayers align more and more with what God is already working on and doing in my life and those around me that I love and care about. I want to join in on His mission!
I hope you know you can trust God with anything that this life throws at you, large or small, because He loves you and me more than we can ever imagine!
In fact, He’s got our backs.
Rest in that knowledge alone today!
“Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.” Psalms 91:1
Until next time sweet friends,
Brooke

I resonate so much with wanting to rush to talk to a friend instead of sitting with God! I’ve been trying to go to him first and I really do hear more of His gentle whispers!! Here’s to more of that!
I love to hear when God uses someone on Substack to be His voice. Such a sweet piece today, thank you for being vulnerable and sharing. <3
