I loveee how good our older generations were at keeping written records of their lives. I have journaled on and off for a few years... but I REALLY want to get better at writing down the big and little God moments. Any and every moment that shows His hand at work. So that I, and future generations could look back on them. :)
There is something about family history that slows us down in the best way. I loved seeing how your grandmother in law recorded ordinary life with such simple beauty. Illness, ironing, snowstorms, Scripture, birthdays. It reminds me that real life has always been made of small faithful days, not just big moments.
I loved this. What amazes me is that not a single entry you shared had a complaint in it. I loved that she recorded what was happening that day and pointed herself back to Scripture. I want to be more like that.
This was fun to read, Brooke! It sounds like you and your family have such a deep connection to your family's roots and honor them in such a way by remembering them. Sometimes reading a day in the life from decades ago makes me feel very privileged and wondering if I'm truly spending my time well. It sounds like she served her family well.

Thank you for reading and commenting, Kylie! Well then I hope this post spurs you on to do just that, sweet friend!
What a treat to read your husband’s grandmother’s words, straight from 1939! Thank you for sharing.
Thank you, that is so incredibly kind of you to say!
Thank you so much for sharing this!! My grandmother was born in 1929, and I would have loved to read her diary.
It is sweet to hear these entries and your thoughts and the bible verses.
You’re so kind and generous with your words, Tanya! So glad you’re here and my friend! And a 1929 journal would be amazing to read!

That is so true, Mandy and so well said! 💕

Well, in full disclosure, it’s her entries and I tied it to scripture. But I was amazed at how easily it did correspond to God’s Word!
Still, the no complaining impressed me! I do way too much complaining!

I love your takeaway, Mollie! I wish I could have known her more. I got to meet her once, at her 90th birthday and for that I am grateful!
